Here is a few fun activities for your toddlers to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Feather painting
What you need: Paint, Paper, Feathers
Instructions: Provide children with various shapes/sizes of feathers. Allow children to feel/play with the feathers before you start. (This is a good activity to follow a circle discussion about turkeys/birds etc.) Allow children to free paint either blank papers or pictures of turkeys. Clean feathers can be added to the pictures with glue after the paintings have dried.
Thanksgiving Placemats
What you need: Paper, Magazines, Glue, Scissors and Mac tac or a laminating machine
Instructions: After a circle discussion on being thankful, provide children with magazines and safety scissors. (This is a great fine motor building activity as well. There is also plenty of opportunity for discussion led by the children based on the pictures they select.) Ask them to select pictures of things they are thankful for. Glue the pictures to the paper and let dry. Mac tac or laminate the placemats for protection and use during your thanksgiving celebrations.
Geometric Shaped Turkeys
What you need: Construction paper, glue and scissors
Instructions: Depending on your groups development shapes may be pre-traced or pre-cut for the children. Provide familiar shapes for the children to use to create their own Thanksgiving turkey. Glue shapes on to sturdy construction paper.
