According to the DNA,
"59(1) Every operator of a day nursery, except a day nursery for handicapped children, shall employ in each day nursery operated by the operator, at least one person for each group of children set out in Column 3 of Schedule 3 who,
(a) holds,
(i) a diploma in Early Childhood Education from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology; or
(ii) an academic qualification that a Director considers equivalent to a diploma referred to in subclause (i); or
(b) is otherwise approved by a Director"
Fancy way of saying you need an ECE in each age group. However there is a note at the bottom which states:
"In exceptional circumstances, exemptions may be granted by a Director."
I have heard of a situation where a qualified staff could not be found, an ECA with extensive experience in a School-age classroom (had worked for the school board as an EA for years) was given directors approval in a school-age program.

Jobs in a school board for students are pretty slim. ECE's can work in the school board as Educational Assistants and in Sept in ON in the JK/SK classrooms. However, the competition for these spots will be fierce. You would likely need your diploma to get in. Now if this school has a before/after school program within it, there are opportunities for ECE students there. I worked in one for many years before I got in a daycare centre. Students can apply for Ministry Approval to hold qualified positions or work as assistants while they complete their degree.
