Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Childcare Worker Appreciation Day

So what is your centre doing to appreciate you on Oct. 22?

I am so jealous! I am the supervisor so all the funding for Oct. 22 comes out of my pocket. I think this year it'll be Timmie's GC's. I love to do more, but the $$$$ just isn't there.

You guys are lucky!

When I worked in daycare we didn't get a thing...not even a thank you!

The thing that gets me is it the 8th annual and so many centres have never even heard of it. My former supervisor was amazing and always made sure to let us know we meant something, so I follow in her footsteps and though it may be a small token (I do make ECE wages after all) I make sure they are recognized.

It's the way to do it.

Being an ECE is a very rewarding job however, not in the $$ aspect of it or the respect level.

I hate being referred to as a babysitter.

Ha.
We didn't even get a Thank You from our boss last year - let alone parents!

Happy ECE and Child Care Worker Appriciation Day!! (OCT 22)

There is no job more important than yours,
no job anywhere else in the land.
You are the keepers of the future:
you hold the smallest of hands.

Into your care you are trusted
to nurture and care for the young
and for all of your everyday heroics,
your talents and skills go unsung.

You wipe tears from the eyes of the injured
You rock babies brand new in your arms.
You encourage the shy and unsure child.
You make sure they are safe from all harm.

You foster the bonds of friendships,
letting no child go away mad.
You respect and you honour their emotions.
You give hugs to each child when they’re sad.

You have more impact than does a professor,
a child’s mind is moulded by four:
so whatever you lay on the table
is whatever the child will explore.

Give each child the tools for adventure
let them be artists and writers and more:
let them fly on the wind and dance on the stars
and build castles of sand on the shore.

It is true that you don’t make much money
and you don’t get a whole lot of praise,
but when one small child says “I love you”,
you’re reminded of how this job pays.

So true Lisa. That poem was perfect!

Last Wednesday was great! We got an anonymous flower delivery (ok it was me) but my staff loved guessing who our admirer was. I ordered in lunch for the whole team and gave out appreciation certificates, letters from the board of directors, personal thank you cards and "daycare survival boxes". I packed them full of sweet treats, hot chocolate, teas, to personal items for the staff room, Tylenol, toothbrushes, mini deodorants, tide to go sticks, safety pins etc. All those sorts of things we need in a pinch and can never find. The staff seemed to enjoy it and it lifted some spirits to know someone cared about them. We even had a family bring chocolates!!!!

We got quite a few cards and what not!

That's sweet...glad you ladies had some recognition!

You deserve it as do all ECE's and child care workers!

my agency sent pizzas to each center...which seemed pretty lame to me..especially because I am vegan...but I didn't really expect much--and I guess it's better than a kick in the pants...
