Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Do your kids

Do your kids attend your centre? If so, do they receive a discount? If so, how much? Did you have the option of having your children attend your centre and choose not to? If so, why?

Until this week, my daughter attended home care and I supervised at a licensed centre. I had a ton of mommy guilt for dropping her off and paying someone else to watch her all day while I went and looked after other people's children. Now my daughter attends my centre and while it has taken some adjustment (even at 2 she knows mommy is the boss and tries to use it to get special treatment) I wouldn't change it for the world. No more guilt at spending long days at work and giving 110% when I know it betters my daughter's life too.

Staff's kids can come to the center, but no discount at all.
My coworker's daughter came last year twice a week for me to help with homework and stuff, it worked fine until she was having an argument with her mom and one of the bosses stepped in and kinda crossed a line, she hasn't been back since.
Our afterschoool worker's two kids both come to the center after school.
We have a worker on Mat leave who wants to bring her son, but we don't take infants so unfortunately it's not an option until he gets REAL close to 2 She's already feeling guilty hardcore and she doesn't come back til Feb....

I can understand your co-workers feelings. I had a really hard time dropping my daughter off one place while I went to work with other kids. Everyone told me she was fine and too young to notice, but my own guilt was just eating away at me.

Child care is every parent has the highest priority. As parents, we want our children to get together, and motivations, safe, healthy and caring environment. As parents, we also have a constant feeling of security that our little and not so little ones are happy and feeling good. For these reasons, the decision of the day care center or preschool care often becomes difficult and tense. How much do you really know about the day care center that do you think?

Your own children in your own centre is a challenge. I too did it sporatically over the years. Thankfully most of the time my wife was home to take care of our children and we survived on my lofty day care salary It wasn't hard...you buy a used car instead of new, ground beef a little more often and steak a little less and perhaps a 20" TV instead of a 50" one. I did find it VERY challenging though when my children were at the centre. It is hard to remain objective and professional when your heart gets in the way!
