Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Biting

Any new ideas for curbing biting? Now that my daughter attends the daycare I supervise, some of my little munchkins are a little put out by her getting to come in with me, come home with me, ride in my car etc. She's become a target and is being bitten. I've dealt with biting for years, but now it's my kid being bit. I have to confess briefly when I saw it happen the other day I almost wanted Mia to stand up for herself (she's the biggest kid in the room). I know, I know, that is bad. Through her tears she told the other child "no thank you, I no like that". Bless her heart. Because it is my child involved I have to step back and I can not be involved in this situation apart from being the parent. This is really hard for me. Generally I am the one that speaks with both parties and parents if the situation warrants. Most parents get the story at pick up time and do not know who the aggressor was. I however see it happen and have to stay neutral. Any advice?

awww my poor pumpkin!

I have no advice or thoughts...is it the older ones or younger ones in her room?

She is in the toddler room, so 18 months to 3 years old.

Is the other child targetting her because she's "new"....marking his/her turf kinda thing? I can totally sympathize with you....there are some kids in our center who we are closer too - they've been with us longer, we see them after hours, etc. And a new one who just started CHOMPED one of our little guys on the arm the other day. It's SO hard to stay neutral, especially when you know the parents quite well - so in your case, even harder - to not be biast. Hopefully this has stopped

The biter has switched daycares. Mia is settling in and seems to be enjoying herslef quite a bit now.

Woohoo! LOL. I mean.....sorry for your loss of revenue.
