Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Programming

I have been running a very successful and full home daycare for 13 years. I have filled our days with plenty of play, reading and activities, inside and outside but would be very interested in knowing what the actual "programming" areas are when an ECE does "programming" for a daycare centre classroom. I'm looking to change things up a bit by offering similar elements that a daycare centre classroom would offer such as circle time and themes.

At our centre we offer programming in Fine motor, Indoor and Outdoor Gross Motor, Science & Sensory, Circle Songs and Book of the day, Arts and crafts, Drama Centre and Special Activity. These are the areas that are posted and are programed on a weekly basis and relate to our weekly or monthly theme. We also rotate out our shelf toys and our library books to match the theme, although these areas are not on our program plan.

Andrea offers excellent advice. Also, check the internet! When I first became an ECE in the mid 80's, the library was the place to go for research. The fact that I can now hope on the web to look for programming/activities/recipes/policies at all times of the day makes things so easy. (not to mention sites such as this!)
