Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

How often are toddlers at your daycare changed?

I was wondering how often toddlers are changed at your daycare (whether you work there or whether it's your child's daycare).

My 17-month-old's daycare is great in every other respect, but I don't like that there are only two scheduled changing times a day. I find this to be not enough, neither for my child nor for the others. There are sometimes additional changes if someone is poopy, but my child is cloth diapered so I know exactly how many times she's changed, and on average she comes home with only two wet diapers in her bag about three times a week (three wet diapers twice a week or so).

Wow, only twice? We have 6 scheduled change times plus any as needed changes throughout the day. 9AM, before outdoor time, after outdoor time/before lunch, before nap (as needed, children often require a change of clothes at this time too), after nap and 4pm. Basically every 90-120 minutes. Some children are dry at these checks, but the oppourtunity for a change is there if needed. This schedule transfers nicely into toilet training around 24-30 months. They get used to the routine.

I check them every two hours and change them as needed.

I agree with Andrea. With experience, a toddler teacher will also get to know "their" toddlers intimidately and know who the heavy wetters are etc. Even now as a supervisor, I have a rough idea when many of the toddlers will have a bowel movement throughout the day just by spending time with them daily and getting to know them and their routines. Two diaper changes per day care day doesn't even come close!
