Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Men in Early childhood workforce

Is it appropriate to divide jobs on gender bass. Are all families feel comfortable to hand in their babies in male caregiver. Are they have same attiyude like women. Are they caring for small babies. These all questions arises when a man want to get a job in childcare centre. Men and women have equll rights in Canada.Men can not kept aside for caregiver jobs. Trend are now changing. Father are playing a new role in family system. In the same way man are feeling important in Early childhood profession. It is every one duty to think about it. They already biased and kept apart from this profession. Only 3% men are working in early childhood profession. Now full day learning program is going to introduce recently. Men are alrready working in junior schools. It is our organizations and members of the society responsibility to change the concept and give them equall chance for working in childcare centres.
Sterotypes are another problem in caring cahildren. Not to far when women have no rights for work even for voting. In canada they get right to vote in 1919. In the same way we have to lead for social action for making spaces for men in daycares. Now it need to change the concept of the duties.Men can serve an important part in children's life. Chilsren who are coming from single parents or in some other conditions it will give them graet benifits for get in touch with male caregiver.

Afroz,
If you create an online petition, please post the link here so we can all sign. I would be happy to help.

I have written an article about Men in Childcare on this site and it has received many comments. Maybe try contacting some of the men who responded? If they have created a user profile you can click on their name and many have their emails listed. They may be able to help with your cause as well. I think it is a good one.

You might approach Ron Blatz of Men in Early Care and Education (MECE) Manitoba (http://www.menteach.com/node/1246) to see if has contacts in Toronto. Ron is very involved in promoting the importance of men in ECE both in Canada and internationally. Take a look at www.MenTeach.org and/or http://www.worldforumfoundation.org/wf/projects/men_ece/ to get a feel for this truly international effort to support gender balance in ECE and ways to recruit, support, and retain men in ECE.

Another male in ECE,
