Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

What is Ask An ECE?

I have been searching for years for a place where child care workers could come together to share ideas, ask questions and get straightforward, honest answers from people who had been there before and understand. Child care is an interesting world we work in and really isn’t like most other jobs. It’s not your standard 9-5. We take home our problems and our friends and neighbours ask our advice on child care matters on weekends and holidays. It’s a lifestyle. We are constantly “in daycare mode”. Our kids see us at the mall and are shocked we do not live at the daycare centre. Oh, and we call them “our” kids. People think I am crazy when I say I have 22 kids. I celebrate 22 birthdays, kiss 22 sets of booboo’s, tie 44 shoes many times a day, keep track of 22 hats/coats etc., celebrate hundreds of loose teeth, and potty train close to 20 kids a year. Let’s see the VP of finance do that!

We do it because we love it and the rewards may not be monetary (we certainly didn’t go into the field for the pay cheque!), but the hugs and love we get is more than enough. So, welcome to AskanECE, join now and be a part of our community. No one said our job was easy, but we’re here to help any way we can.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our very own Theresa Ryan! Theresa won the Individual Award of Excellence for Children's Services at the Child Care Conference held in Durham Region today!
We at AskanECE, acknowledged her first, but nice to know that all of Durham Region acknowledges her effort and passion for child care too!
Way to go, Theresa!

Durham Region Child Care Forum

The Durham Region Child Care Forum is holding its Annual Conference at the Durham District School Board Office on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008. Last year’s conference was fantastic and I came away with tons of free stuff, information, contacts and I had a lot of fun too. There are door prizes, a great lunch, a vendor and service provider fair, keynote speaker and of course, workshops.

Canadian Election and Child Care

As a childcare provider, and parent, the topic of childcare is important to me when it comes to election time. I was very frustrated to not have all the information I wanted from the different Parties at my fingertips. I heard more about what other parties were not going to do, then actual campaign platforms from the Parties themselves.

After some digging, I have found some information from the 4 main political Parties about their campaign platforms as they pertain to childcare.

Some Older Crafts

As we get in to October, I thought now would be a good time to revive a few older articles. For our Canadian readers, next week is Thanksgiving, so here are some activities for your Toddlers to do:

And for everyone, Hallowe'en is coming up, and we know how exciting that is. Here is our two part article from last year on Hallowe'en crafts:
