Where Daycare Professionals and Ideas Come Together

Toddlers

Valentine's Day Crafts

My three year old is super crafty and since I am off on mat leave, she does crafts A LOT lately. She wanted to make valentine's for her friends. I actually had found her a template, but she had a better idea.
You will need: construction paper, scissors, tape, lollipop, google eyes and glue. (I also had to get a heart shaped cookie cutter as neither of us could free hand a good heart.)
Glue google eyes to sucker. Draw two hearts and cut out. Glue heart tips together. Tape sucker to the hearts as the "body/head". Write your holiday greeting.

Christmas Crafts

Here are two great Christmas themed crafts for Toddlers, and one for Preschoolers.

Remembrance Day Activities

Here's a few simple crafts that should be good for all age groups, to celebrate Rememberance Day.

Some Older Crafts

As we get in to October, I thought now would be a good time to revive a few older articles. For our Canadian readers, next week is Thanksgiving, so here are some activities for your Toddlers to do:

And for everyone, Hallowe'en is coming up, and we know how exciting that is. Here is our two part article from last year on Hallowe'en crafts:

I've become a bookworm

I used to read a novel or two a week. Then I became a parent and my reading consisted of I Will Love You Forever and Dear Zoo over and over again. I am still a parent, but battling the "terrible twos" has forced me to seek outside help. So off to www.amazon.com I went and ordered my own library of toddler survival guides. It's been a few weeks and I must admit I am in love with three of these books. So much so, I am using their advice at work and at home.

Olympics Theme

This year the Olympics are being held in Beijing, China on August 8 to 24 2008. This is an excellent opportunity to use current events in your programming. Our centre likes to use this opportunity to experience foods from other countries, learn new national anthems and color flags from around the world in addition to practicing Olympic sports, having our own opening and closing ceremonies, practicing team work and keeping track of how our favorite countries are doing in the medal count.

Mommy Daddy & Me - A Programming Theme for Preschoolers

Here is a fun theme to fill in the winter blah's between Christmas and Valentine's Day, after you've finished up the Winter themes. Have the children bring in pictures of themselves, their parents and siblings. There's a number of activities you can do with them.

Remember! Not all families are just Mommy, Daddy & child - adjust this according to what's appropriate for your children.

Thanks to my daughter's daycare provider for this idea.

Winter Crafts

A winter/snowperson theme is perfect for dreary January with no major holidays to celebrate and lots of snow days to look forward to. We have had lots of success at my centre with some of these creative (and snow based) tactile activities with our preschoolers and toddlers.

Halloween Crafts - Part 2

As promised in Halloween Crafts Part 1, we now present the Gross Haunted House crafts. This is 5 simple crafts that really work well together, and are great fun for the kids. The theme here is "body parts", as you will see. You can use these to create an awesome haunted house afternoon, and is a nice candy-free Halloween day.
